Spotlight on Kingsteignton Swimming Pool
For the last 36 years we have provided the Kingsteignton community with a unique outdoor swimming experience. We cater for all, including the local schools, swimming club and people with disabilities.
Our junior members make good use of the pool: learning to swim, meeting their friends and having fun with the inflatables. Parents recognise the benefits to their children’s development – socialising in a family-friendly, safe and well equipped environment. We provide further facilities for the young and old alike, with recent improvements to the toddler pool and its surrounds and the introduction of cut price ‘OAP’ swims at £2 per time for those aged 65 and over.
Our adult and child memberships offer unlimited swimming, and Aquafit also returns this season on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings, which is open to both men and women for a small charge. The pool, together with BBQ and your choice of music, is available for private hire providing a memorable party, enjoyed by all who attend. The health and safety of our users is paramount and all our sessions are supervised under the watchful eye of our qualified lifeguard team.
Want your child to learn to swim? We can help! This year we are introducing a new Saturday Swim School starting on 30th April. These small classes will ensure your child makes good progress along the 6 week block of lessons with experienced, qualified swimming teachers. Bookings can be made by calling Clair on 07966 473807 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. We also offer week-long intensive swimming courses during the school holidays providing a lesson a day, from Monday to Friday. Bookings can be make calling Mel on 07854 776035 or emailing email@example.com
We are grateful for all the support we’ve received, through grants, donations and ongoing community fundraising. Regular activities include the monthly bingo, lottery, annual Street Market, Christmas Santa float and even a clothing recycling bank. And, of course, big thanks to the organisers of the ever-popular Dartmoor Classic, who have supported the pool for the last four years. Without this support, we would not have been able to update and improve facilities at the pool for our users and spectators.
The commitment of the committee remains strong and we thank all of our volunteers and the generosity of local supporters and the Town Council. Many items are essential, but not visible to users of the pool, for example the replacement of the pumps to both the main and toddler pools at the end of the 2015 season. This work was vital and very costly. We need to maintain our fundraising efforts against a background of ever-increasing regular and maintenance costs, such as rising fuel and energy prices, and introduction of the National Living Wage for our staff. We need to be prepared for all eventualities, which recently included having to repair major storm damage to the roof of the garage and the female changing area. We are pleased that all repairs were completed in March in plenty of time for the start the 2016 season.
The pool will be opened at 1pm on Saturday 23rd April by the town mayor, Cllr Dave Rollason, please come along and support us!
