Cycling Weekly Reader Poll

News of the Dartmoor Classic, once again, placing high in the very top echelon of the country’s major sportives came as no surprise to those who have experienced the outstanding event. The Mid-Devon Cycling Club promotion placed a very creditable second in the most recent Cycling Weekly Reader Poll; with the inaugural Prudential Ride London – Surrey 100 claiming the 2013 title “Favourite British cyclo-sportive

Runner-up, in this prestigious annual competition, was no mean achievement, given that the capital’s new addition to the U.K. calendar drew on the support of 16,000 participants; six times the number of those eligible to vote for the Devon fixture. Like the Dartmoor Classic, the equally well established Wiggle Dragon Ride also slipped down a notch this time, to complete the podium positions. For consistency however, the Dartmoor Classic can not be beaten; being the only sportive to finish in the top three every year since the competition’s inception; which includes running away with the top spot 12 months ago.

The Mid-Devon C.C’s. members are justifiably proud of their record in the much prized, consumer supported contest, particularly as their voluntarily organised event was sandwiched between two profit driven promotions, staged by major commercial undertakings. Long may the club’s dedication and passion for the sport keep the Dartmoor Classic competing for the recognition it so richly deserves, and long may the members appreciate the support of all those riders and Cycling Weekly readers who cast their votes in gratitude for the efforts of the clubmen and women who run the event.
