Dartmoor "Corporate" Classic

Devon County Council TravelWise is pleased to assist the promoters of the Dartmoor Classic cyclo sportive in encouraging more people to take up cycling.

To this end 300 places have been set aside in via a specific block "Corporate" event. This is to encourage team entries from organisations and businesses within the Devon area which promote and support cycling to work for their staff. There will be awards for the organisations that achieve the best take up as a percentage of their headcount. The kind of help that employers can offer to encourage cycle commuting will typically be –

What's New?

Probably the most important changes, particularly for those who rode the first edition of the Dartmoor Classic, are the two new routes which will give you more moor for your money; 70% of the 100 mile route is over parts of the moor not covered in 2007.

While devising these new routes didn’t actually cost anything, apart from some sore legs, other changes have led to a level of entry fee that will be fully justified by an even higher standard of promotion and individual rider benefits.

As well as the unique Dartmoor Granite trophies, which were so well received by all finishers last time round, the next edition will also boast handsome gold, silver or bronze medals for all who beat the clock. A new and improved timing system will extend to provide splits at intermediate checkpoints, guaranteeing greater accuracy and more detailed information for all participants, while feeding station choices will include hot beverages and snacks as well as the full range of energy products previously provided.

Levies set by British Cycling, for insurance cover, have increased and an additional levy, set by the local B.C. region, to develop cycling throughout the South West is also now incorporated in the entry fee.

Support for charities such as the Dave Rayner fund, one of the main beneficiaries of the inaugural event, will also be increased in 2008 thanks to your commitment to enter.

EXTRA PLACES

In an effort to cope with demand, there will be an extra 100 places available in the next Dartmoor Classic, bringing the overall total to 1300. However, regular sportive riders need to be aware that 300 of these places have already been reserved by our funding partner Devon County Council TravelWise. These are for Devon County residents whose employers encourage cycling to work and who wish to shape up and compete for The Dartmoor Classic Corporate Trophy.

NOTE: If by March 1st any of these 300 reserved places remain unclaimed they will then be released – on a first come-first served basis - to whoever wishes to enter, including those who may have had their entries previously returned if the other 1000 places have been filled by that date. Entries will not be held pending release of unclaimed D.C.C. TravelWise places. A statement will be made regarding the availability of unclaimed places as soon as possible after Mar.1st.
